Welcome to my personal blog and portfolio. I designed and built this site from scratch with Hugo, a popular static site generator and my favorite alternative to WordPress for blogging.
The theme it’s built on, Hugo Liftoff, is available to the public for free on GitHub. I created it for one simple reason: I couldn’t find an SEO-friendly Hugo theme with a solid design that supported portfolio projects, series posts, and content subsections out of the box.
Feel free to try it out and let me know what you think.
The Purpose of This Site
I use this blog to discuss the projects I’m working on, share what I’m learning, and connect with others on a similar path.
I find that writing helps solidify my understanding of complex topics. The fortunate byproduct of that is the ability to help others shortcut their learning process too.
What I Write About
Most of my writing is about building/growing websites, web apps, and other online projects. As a result, regular topics include web development, digital marketing, software, and the tech industry.
While I use this site as a “sandbox” to practice SEO, I like to focus on quality content first and foremost. Ranking in search engines is just a bonus.
My Background
Previously, I was a support engineer at a software company in the cybersecurity space.
I began my career as a front-line support rep solving basic customer issues. Eventually, I worked my way up to helping customers automate their workflows via our API, setting up and troubleshooting 3rd-party API integrations with other security vendors, and writing preliminary bug reports for the engineering team.
I also have a strong background in digital marketing from all the side projects I’ve worked on over the years. I built my first website in 2014 and have been hooked ever since.
These days, I’m pursuing client work and improving my tech skills as I continue to build out my ideas.
For web development, the stack I work with the most is Python (Django), SCSS, and Vanilla JavaScript. I’m also a huge proponent of Hugo and the JAMstack ecosystem for static or content-based websites. To tie it all together, I’m not afraid to dip my toes into various no-code tools and 3rd-party software solutions.
I’m currently open to opportunities, whether that’s a job, freelance work, or a mutually-beneficial partnership. If that interests you, feel free to shoot me a message and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
